    Paediatric Development Assessment

Specialist developmental assessment evaluating a child's motor, language, cognitive, and social development to identify delays or disorders requiring early intervention.

    Overview

    Preparation Instructions

Attend well-rested if possible. Bring the red book and any previous reports. The child should wear comfortable clothing easy for play activities. Bring a familiar toy or comfort object to help the child settle.

    What to Expect

The paediatrician observes the child at play and uses structured standardised activities to assess each developmental domain. Parents are present throughout and asked specific questions about the child's abilities at home. The assessment typically takes 45 to 60 minutes.

    Recovery

A written developmental assessment report is provided within 2 to 4 weeks. Referrals to speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, or CAMHS are arranged based on the assessment findings. Early intensive intervention during the pre-school years provides the greatest developmental benefit.
